The proposal of the eco-city mimics the functioning of planetary ecosystems, with symbiotic relationship between biotic communities and the resources that support them within a hierarchy of scales. The supporting systems (incl. equipment, facilities and spaces) are created to produce food and energy, to catch and recycle rain and waste water, and to collect and reuse solid wastes. All of those systems are organized at the city level, as well as on all micro levels, including neighborhood, block, and building levels, making the city as self sufficient as possible. The calculations were made to determine the carrying capacity, above which the self-sufficiency becomes inconceivable. The model is developed under assumptions of impacts that accounts for minimal external users, with specific accent on efficient morphology and hierarchy of transportation modes. The model is developed using existing technology, avoiding the risk of a “green wash”.
